There are many free websites that teach accounting from the ground up.
The two websites I encourage Accounting and Business majors to peruse are the Accounting Coach (
http://www.accountingcoach.com/), and the Bean Count (
http://www.dwmbeancounter.com/). Also check out the university library and search for the Dummies book and its kind to teach you the accounting fundamentals.
