Four Reading Rates (English)
Texts are written with varying degrees of difficult and ease that affect comprehension ability. To maximize your comprehension of a text, adjust your reading style, technique, and rate to accommodate the type of text you are reading. The following chart can be used as a guide to determine which reading rate is most suitable for the different types of texts listed.

The Mechanics Of Reading (English)
Skillful reading requires:
-A minimum number of fixations to the line of type.
-Wide eye span which encompass phrases and thought sequence rather than isolated words.
-A complete absence of lip movements and vocalization.
-Infrequent regressions.

The SQ3R Method of Studying
Survey: familiarizes the reader with the material presented in a chapter
Question: formulating a question before reading encourages the reader to become more involved with the chapter
Read: reading with a specific purpose helps to promote concentration
Recite: allows the reader to assess his/her understanding of the reading material
Review: challenges the reader to recall the chapter's main points and comprehend the relationships between them.

Learn How To Visualize While Reading
Visualizing as you read can help to improve your critical comprehension of a text. Visualizing is seeing an essay, short story, or play come to life in your "mind's eye." You create mental images of events as they unfold. Visualizing will enhance the other reading strategies you are learning.
