Essay Formatting

Hey, is it true what my friend says that it's generally understood that all English essays are supposed to be double spaced instead of single spaced? I'm currently taking English 104.

Generally, ALL essays (any subject) must be double spaced and of course font size 12.

For ENG104, i'm 99% sure that it would have to be double spaced.

I'm glad that most if not all english instructors want the essay typed in double space.
Imagine writing a 7 page essay single spaced.

You don't find a book or a textbook in double-spaced format so why is double space the normal format you find on all english essays?

For some reason, when an essay needs to be five pages long, I end up typing a lot more but when an essay needs to be two pages long, I can't come up with full two pages.

Maybe it depends on the topic you've had...

it's easier for teachers to read and write comments. If books were double spaced it they would be wasteful for the environment, twice as long, twice as heavy, and probably almost twice as expensive
