| Newcomer | It is usually because they eat up bandwidth. However, maybe you could enable avatars if they are hosted off the server only. Then it wouldn't tax your server at all.

With person-person real life contact, you identify individuals by far more than their names (heck, I hardly remember people's names half the time, but i still know who they are). Having avatar support helps create identities for different posters, which is very important, imho, for the creation of any sort of viable community. I would think making these forums amiable would be of high concern? Granted, signature support seems to be implemented, and includes the use of img tags, and would allow for circumvention of preventing user avatar, as shown below. In my experience, however, large picts in signatures are far more annoying than avatar pics, which are generally constrained to 40 x 60 pixels or something like that. oh yeah, I was semi-disappointed your color tags do not stack ([C0L0R]=green] greentext [C0L0R=blue] blue text [/C0L0R] green text [/C0L0R] normal text), as it can be useful when fighting with the char limit in signatures, but it was mostly inconvenient, rather than prohibitive, in this case. Edit: Speaking of creating community, I find post counts, or some measure of post counts, can be useful to that sort of thing. Edit II: errr, um nevermind about that postcount thing, I'm just blind is all. Yay for postcounts, heh.

I agree that having avators might help create an identity on the username but not for everyone. I have created identity and can easily distinguish several members by reading their posts alone. ![]() I will enable avators. Welcome to the forum Bluskale. Thanks for your feedback and would you care to tell us how you found the forum and maybe create an introduction thread?

If you want a larger picture, try putting it into your sig instead. | |
