![]() | OMIGOSH - you guys are soooo funny. To tell you the truth, as a young female (5'9" brunnette and leggy) I know I'm not looking for some smooth talker - and guys don't need to be confident either. I think that when girls say they are looking for "honesty" in a relationship they mean something different. A guy can make himself to appear honest... but that's not it. It's sincerity. It's being able to be honest and mean it - and showing that you mean it. And I'm sorry, but if your guru for dating is Tom Leykis - you've got some problems. Yeah that guy can buy his chicks.. but I don't think any of you guys really want to "buy" chicks. If you want to find a girl like Tom Leykis gets... go to Hooters, but I guarantee you guys won't be happy with that. Girls attracted to that type are stupid and you would all get bored with that type of girl because she would not be your intellectual equal. (Think about it... is that type of girl really going to sit around while you're toying with your computer?????.. no offense, but I don't think you guys are willing to give that up - NOT FOR ALL THE SEX IN THE WORLD. admit it! God - you guys should only be as funny and regular as you are on this forum. I love popping in to see what you all are talking about (THE SOY MILK THREAD IS HILARIOUS). In addition..... I am a fairly attractive girl, but I wouldn't touch a really good-looking guy with a ten-foot pole. I think that smooth talkers and good-looking guys have it to easy and since they have those qualities they don't bother to rely on wit and intellect - what I find the most attractive in a man. All that we really ask is that you don't have to be Fabio .... just respect yourself. If we know a OK-looking man with great characteristics can treat himself with respect by keeping "clean" we know that he could respect us too. Back me up on this ZOE.

that's just on how you use your tone to say it. I call girls chick ALL THE TIME, and they could care less. If a girl calls me a "dude" I won't cry.

![]() | Oh my! JPWRana actually posted a decent post. ![]() I believe a lot of this has to do with the phase that we all go through. For example, fresh-out-of-high school girls (or guys) will want to experience the so-called college life. Hence, they join fraternity/sorority, attend college parties, and compete how many dates they can get with their buddies. When few years flow by, they might want to change their prioritize, perspective on a college life, and hopefully their views toward college dating. Anyways, thank goodness that we all have a different taste. |

| Guru | Look what happens when I repair leaks instead of frequenting this forum, interesting threads break out and I'm not a part of them! Waaahhh... What can I say that hasn't already been said? I guess just my observations... I agree with Postergirl in that we want sincere guys, not smooth talkers. We see and define "smooth talkers" as charming guys who will say anything to get what they want, whether what they say is true or not. Dishonesty is distasteful, as is insincerity. That being said, there is also truth in what the guys are saying. People in general (not just girls) respond better to a person who can hold a conversation. There was one time, back in the day, when I was participating in a small campus forum kind of like this one. One guy's posts seem very intelligent, thoughtful and quite on par with my way of thinking. We emailed back and forth and had long discussions about various things. We decided to meet in person because he seemed interesting. He wasn't scary or anything in person, but he was sooooo obviously uncomfortable with himself that it made me uncomfortable. He spoke in a very quiet voice and in stilted sentences. I'm sure he was nervous, but I've never seen anyone so awkward. It made me feel awkward as well and I just wanted to get out of there. It was so unexpected considering the volumes we were able to "speak" online. The important thing isn't saying what you think the other person wants to hear (smooth talking), but to be comfortable with yourself. Yes this does include confidence, and it's hard to come by. I myself was a gibbering idiot until I finished high school. Then I started to be aware of what I'd accomplished, what I was capable of doing. I was focusing on what I had and my achievements instead of what I did not or could not do. I started feeling better about myself and it shows. People will notice.

Being yourself is total BS. If I WERE MYSELF, a girl would get bored from hearing me talk about how I passed Need for Speed Underground 2, what my strategy's are for getting more frags in Half Life 2, my debates over wich bit torrent sites are better, etc. Girls like 2 hear: gossip, soaps, their LV bags that they wanna get, how that prada bag will look good on them, how that eye shadow matches this better, how they wana go 2 europe 2 vacation this summer, manicures, facials, whose hot in hollywood, celebs, etc. If you talk about that, THEN THE GIRL WILL BE NON STOP TALKING... cuz that's her specialties. WHY DO YOU THINK GIRLS LIKE GAY GUYS AND GUYS DON'T LIKE GAY GUYS? (other than the fact that you don't know if he'll touch your ass)That is where you'll also avoid awkward silences.!!! Here's a tip: since girls like funny dudes, try 2 make a funny about the things SHE LIKES, that way she can make the connections. Avoid politics, cuz girls (in general, or high maintenance ones) could care less, except for that legally blonde girl.

I prefer to discuss video games and computer topics over celebrities and facials ANY DAY. You seem to think that being yourself = being boring to a girl. You might be borig to SOME girls, and fascinating to others. What happens if, after pretending to be someone you're not, she finally finds out the REAL you and is turned off. You just wasted your time. You should've been yourself to begin with. Being yourself doesn't mean being socially incompetent. Girls, like all humans, come in many different flavors. Some will like what you have to say, others will not. We have all sorts of interests and abilities and cannot be lumped altogether into one collective that is only attracted by deceiving smooth talkers. You do make one valid statement however: and that's to keep the conversation going. Talk about things that interest you, AND ask what things the girl is interested in. It's how you both get to know each other and find out how compatible you are. If you have nothing in common then there can't be a relationship anyway.
