Default If you need a loyal friend---

try a dog! A friend of mine who works here at Cal Poly Pomona found a dog at his front door yesterday. Its a pug, about 2-4 years old. He is super friendly, affectionate, good with other smaller dogs, calm, and most importantly, will not chew up your furniture! The only not-good thing about the dog is he is not neutured. My friend has posted a FOUND report at the pound, and if the dog is not "claimed" by his owners in one week, he will be able to put the dog up for adoption, in hopes that the poor creature will not have to be put to sleep.

If you are someone you know is lookg for a low-maintenance dog, let me know! Thank you for reading this!

My house is already overrun with dogs, so I can't take any more in. My supervisor has a couple of pugs, says they are very sweet, and spoiled beyond belief. One thing he doesn't like is you have to measure out their food over the course of the day. You can't just leave the dish out all day like with most dogs. He says they'll eat all the food all at once as if they're starving all the time. They are also extremely strong for their size. It took three people to hold his male dog down at the vet to medicate the ear infection.

Anyway, I didn't know all that much about pugs. I always thought they were funny-looking little dogs, especially since seeing the one in Men In Black. But they seem to be a nice option for a small dog. I could tell you all about chihuahuas -- very high strung little things. I love my little yappers, but damn are they annoying sometimes!

To buy any purebred dog from a source other than a dog pound will always be pricey. I've always thought purebreds are highly overrated and stupid. A dog is a dog. The more "pure" it is, the more likely it is to be inbred with genetic defects. But anyway, I and any veterinarian will tell you the best place to get a new "best friend" is at a dog pound. Rescue one from being destroyed. Lots of dogs out there named "Lucky" for just that reason. You'll pay a fee (around $65 depending on the pound) and that's a bargain compared to pet shops and breeders. Hey you can adopt the one SuperMegStar posted about!

My parents have 2 dogs rescued from the mean streets of So. Cal, and you would not believe how great the dogs are. One is a bulldog, a very expensive dog. We got him for free because he was abandoned. Our other one is a mix of all kinds of stuff (Boxer and Rhodesian Ridge), and is a wonderfully loving and playful dog.
I agree with Zoe, purebreds are prone to medical problems. Stick to the dogs that need you the most, not the ones some rich person created for kicks.
