im a calpoly homer. ive known some crazy intelligent genius type people out of our pomona campus. the problem with the school the staff is not vitalized. they are motivated to educate, for the most part, but no buzz is occurring on campus. i saw pics of the library, wish i had something that nice when i was still in school. my cousin graduated from the school of business in the 90's and have always respected the CSUF business program. if CSUF had a MSEM program, id probably attempt to go to CSUF, since it is much closer to my house then Pomona. I'd love to see the day where Pomona was a well rounded school, instead of good in certain areas. The mathematics department was horrible when I attended, and was lucky I only had to take a Diff E. course at CPP, and that was an adventure. I learned the course afterward in the EE department through application along with many extra hours learning it via other sources. I took upper level math courses in order to fulfill the requirement for a minor and thought the instruction was fair, although math majors and some students from other schools felt the instruction was poor. i think many times the blame gets put on the instructor, when the fault is the lack of skill/effort of the student. although i met a couple professors in the CS department that were beyond inflexible and one openly bad mouth the engineering professors. very unprofessional and very moronic.
the education is what you make of it for the most part. i took the hardest professors because I valued the quality of education. my gpa was not padded, unlike some who took every easy opportunity possible. many got rewarded with nice jobs due to the CPP on the resume with a gpa 3.2+. it is sad CSUF can get someone to donate 90 extra extra large to build a new building, and CPP can not get funding just to get a new business building and state of the art equipment in the OLLLD ARSE EE building.
a lot of jealousy going on. dont get me wrong, many professors get along across the various schools and departments. the problem is their needs to be a plan to make sure the school attracts new students, and brilliant students. im sure UCLA isnt making kids use 40yr old analog machines with signs that say "if you break the knob it can not be replaced". it forced the student to know what he/she was doing, but still is unfortunate. we also have i believe the only RF Labs in So Cal and probably not many in the state, along with having one of the only Power Engineering degrees and labs. the problem is the Power option needs some more enthusiastic professors. we use to have a cal tech professor teaching a couple labs back in the day. we can get the professors, just need to update the facilities. oh and our physics instructors are pretty good too, one professor had been at CPP since it was still part of SLO
