![]() | The number of OOS students is very small. I'm wondering is it because they are not as well known as the UCs, or because its just difficult to get in being out of state? I have good grades and got into schools with lower acceptance rates than these two schools, and even got academic scholarships from them. My gpa in college is about 3.6 currently (and I'm a science major, of course :P ), at a top 100 USnews ranked school. I picked these two schools because I'm very interested in the animal health major, and I've always been interested in living in Cali, as I think its more progressive than NY. So I figure now or never. No schools I know of in NY have the animal health major, and few have a 4yr animal science program. I'm also worried about the social aspect, especially it being a commuter campus. It will be hard to leave what I've already got behind. I'm not sure I'll be living in the dorms. If anything I would like to live in the Village. I know living on campus will help, but I might also live off. The clubs that I see have mostly to do with academics. I plan on volunteering and getting a job off campus, which should help socially, but I don't want to be friendless in a state where I know nobody. The counselors at Pomona have been less than helpful unfortunately. I will for the third time fax them the things over that they asked in order to see if I have the requirements/enough transferable units... Thanks to any responses.... |

![]() | Hi s0ad and welcome to the Cal Poly forum. Based on your GPA and the major you want to get into, I would think your chance of transferring into their program is very high. Once you get accepted to their program, search for all the scholarships applicable to your major and apply them all. You'll need it because of the out-of-state tuition rate. Make friends with peers in your department or at a club and you'll find a available spot in no time. Best of luck s0ad!

![]() | Yeah, you sort of right that Cal Poly is somewhat a commuter school but i have met few people whom lives on campus and they pretty involved with school activities and clubs. I guess you just go seek out those opportunities. Also if you need information regarding your major, you can always trying emailing few professors that specialized in that area. Don't be afraid to ask them and sometimes they become valuable resources. And if you need info about housing, try contacting student housing as well. Don't know much about Fresno but I'm sure Cal Poly is closer to a metropolitan area than Fresno (Los Angeles is less than 10 miles away from Cal Poly Pomona). Of course, this is a Cal Poly forum and our opinions might be biased... but Good luck |
